The Great Pork Rind Experiment

Steve from The Sneeze did a taste test of pickled pork rinds a few years ago that was the inspiration for this post. Before he tried eating them, he emptied the jar of rinds and tried to put them back together again, like all the rinds were from the same pig. Well, pickled pork rinds - I'm not a fan of, especially after reading his comments here- http://www.thesneeze.com/mt-archives/cat_steve_dont_eat_it.php. But why not regular fried pork rinds? I bought this little bag (actually I bought another also, that I ate the night before), and tried to put piggy back together again.

So here it is, believe it or not (I've had some doubters, but whatever). Enjoy!

Art Supplies - 99 cents. Hot, Barbeque taste- Priceless.

The especially ugly, hard one that I used for the tail.

It wasn't looking too promising early, and I used every single one!

Oink!!

That, my dear is talent!!!!! Pork rinds are an american thing, we don't have them here in Canada, and you just couldn't do that with a popcorn twist..... or could you :-) Cheers

That's pretty impressive, but can you do it with soggy rinds, that's the question.

I love your work! It makes me smile on a daily basis. I'm also consistently impressed with your wire architecture.
I have a little something fun I'd like to mail to you to see if you could work with it - I hope you'd be okay with it! meraley@gmail.com let me know if you are!

omg! That's unbelievable. When I first started reading I couldn't see how it could be done but man...props on the interior wire structure that must've taken. I don't know how hard pork rinds are, but they must have been harder to work with than most materials. oink oink!

I hate when people leave links on my blog - but that said - your sense of humor tells me that you would enjoy a friends site - www.magicgoat.com

It's alot of reading - but worth it for the belly laughs.

I can decide if this is gross or really cool. Of course I am impressed, but I don't want to think about parts of a pig!

Being married to a southern guy, I understand people's love for the pork rind, however I think that your use for them is WAY better than actually eating them! Keep up the good (and entertaining) work.

It must have been hard not to eat even one!

:::smile::: but what you created was oinkiful!

Waiting to see if you add some beef jerky to join clever piggy.

Okay Terry... I am sure I see two pudgy little cheeks in the pile of bits that are not in the final edition.... hmmm....could just be the angle from which I am viewing.... ....but perhaps somebody did so eat some chubby jowels...

Terry said...

thanks all!

And NO, I didn't eat any, not even one. I bought a seperate bag and scarfed 'em down the night before!

For anyone who hasn't tried 'em, and isnt' a vegetarian yet, buy a bag, you'll like them!

Beef Jerky eh? Hmmm.

Perhaps I'm remedial or something, but I'm not seeing the pig. I see the bag of rinds, I see them spread on the table next to the empty bag...and that's it. Is my internets broken? Please advise. I linked here from The Sneeze and would love to see the finished pig (by)product.

You and me both, Amanda. I can't see anything beyond the spread out pork bits.

Maybe I'm just blind, but I don't see a pig! :( Maybe you could draw lines to show how it is a pig?

DewKid said...

I'm not seeing the pig either. Is this kind of like the Emporer's New Clothes?

I'm also new to this site. Lot's of really neat ideas here! Good work!!

BONNIE?!?

No pork rinds in Canada? What the fuck is that about?

Well, we don't have ketchup chips. This is a cruel planet sometimes.

Terry said...

I don't know why, but half the post dissappeared sometime today. I just put Humpty back together again.

Kegan said...

I finally see it now. I had that same problem just seeing them spread out. I was looking, trying to see a pig's face. I realize now how stupid I was to just ignore the words "the especially ugly, hard one that I used for the tail."

Great work; I love all the posts I've yet seen.

David said...

wow, you nailed it, what pig-ness!
I am so glad you did not watse your mind in accounting, or at the post office...... you didn't, did you ?

I just ran across your spot here today while checking out Steve's spot. This little pig is ingenious!!! Who'd a thunk you could put a bag of pork rinds together and make a pig??? Impressive! Entertaining! And oh so original!

DewKid said...

Ah, pictures were missing. That explains why I didn't see the pig... it wasn't there!

...and to think I stared at that second picture - the one with the rinds laying next to the bag - for quite a few minutes trying to "find the pig". I thought I was going nuts! :-)

Anonymous said...

Wha? I'm from Canada, and we do SO have pork rinds. I've eaten them myself! The brand name was Porky's. (Go figure)
P.S. Great blog, Terry!

Very good!

I always wondered what Pork Scratchings were known as outside of Britain.

Now I know and I also know that they can be used for creating works of art.

We mere think of making curry or chops with it. You have just gone one step further - and made such a nice thing out of it! High thinking!
