Har! I tried tethering daughter ONCE... unfortunately the store I chose to test out the contraption also had my parents shopping there. I was crushed, they were surprised, daughter was having a great time. Never used the dang thing again... so this brings back memories for sure! Wish we could keep them safe this way always.
This is hilarious! When my twin brother and I were kids(4-6 years old) my parents had us wear harnesses that had a "leash" attached to the back. NO LIE! Of course that was the late '70's so I'm sure they would be frowned upon now. Thanks for the memories and the laugh.
Poor kids. They used to have this chain gang of children all tethered together that would wander the halls of my community college with their leaders...so cute and hilarious and a little wrong.
My daughter had a harness and leash for my oldest grandson (he's 14 now) because he's ADHD and had a tendency to take off quickly. Grandpa (my hubby) was left in charge of him at the Riverfest in Wichita KS, so he was harnessed up and put on the leash. The grandson LOVED it! He immediately got on all fours and let grandpa walk him like a dog. Needless to say they drew a lot of attention.
This is cute! They still have the harness/leash restraints. Of course, they're a little more politically correct now. Makes me think of a preschool/kindergarten teacher who would uses a modified version of this for the whole class. I can still hear her scolding the kids "now don't let go of the rope, everybody stay together and DON'T LET GO OF THE ROPE!" Hope your feeling better Terry.
yep- the backpacks with tails are a great invention. I must have seen 40 of them at the zoo on Tuesday.
I have personally always hated the harness thing on kids, but after having a little hellion (I mean darling) of my own I can totally see the merit! That being said, I still have not used one, just sucked it up and dealt with it- and had a quiet little nervous breakdown at home after the day spent chasing down my kiddo in large, noisy public places with lots of strangers and interesting places for him to hide.
I have absolutely no problem with leashing my child. I'd rather have a child on a leash, than one on a missing child poster. They're faster than you think.
On another train of thought, I loved th picture, it made me laugh.
heehee satire! this reminds me of george carlin's new bit on "child worship"..i want to cut the kids loose but, after all, they are little masterlocks themselves. o destiny
Terry, just wondering if you saw yesterday's Family Circus cartoon in the paper. The dad is walking the dog on a harness with the little boy getting into general mischeif along the way. The last frame shows the dad walking back up the drive with the dog off leash and the kiddo in the harness. I thought of your photo!
is this where we start playing the creepy music? i saw the cartoon as well thankfully my name isn't jennifer or lynn because that would have made it even creepier.
I'm a person who laughs at the absurdities of life, which there are many.
After four decades on Planet Earth, I feel I've finally found a way to bring into existance all of my crazy thoughts and ideas. It's been a struggle searching for a "language" that I can translate them into, so that others might appreciate my points of view. Yes, I know -blah,blah,blah! Enough about me already.
One more thing though - I do hope you enjoy your time here. Life is short, have fun!

Brilliant, as usual, Terry.
This gives a whole new meaning to keeping 'under lock and key'
No problem keeping their chastity though.
This is definitely one of my favourites. Totally brought to life and full of win.
Love this creation!
Awesome job Terry!
Keep up the Great work!

That's kind of adorable, I'm not gonna lie.

On with the blather
I think this one is cute!!!
Practically every kid at the Monterey Aquarium was wearing little animal backpacks with "tails" attached to them.
I'm consistently impressed with how you are able to imbue mundane objects with so much personality!
I didn't want to post this but after seeing that one else did I felt I should:
Cute? Children on leashes are cute?
This picture is creepy. There are far more clever things that you can do with locks besides show kid locks chained to their parents. =\ Not cool.
I do love your work, I do. This one is an exception.

How long before one of them finds at least one key?
Ha! Thanks all!

As Amy said, it's not cute; it's creepy.
Unlike Amy, however, I think it one of your more brilliant pieces. Sure, it's creepy, but it's got so many layers of meaning to it...
I'm such a big fan. Hope you're feeling better. As always...great stuff.
Thanks all! I have been feeling better today.
Thanks for all the well wishes etc. since I've been ill.
My mom had a leash for me when I was little. Well, more of a harness really. People thinks it's weird when I tell them this.

I saw that too! and my name is also jennifer. many coincidences.
love the photo, terry!
Even more coincidental... _my_ middle name is also LYNNE!
is this where we start playing the creepy music?
i saw the cartoon as well

Cheers,
Terry your lighting here is perfect and of course I also love the subject matter.
I hope little kids on leashes (and who aren't) still play the beloved game of hopscotch -- and not on the PS3.
