I was going through some of my older stuff and I came across this piece. This is from October of 2006, when I was still creating with more of an idea of "sculptural" pieces rather than working towards photographic images. I made it for Illustration Friday (the word that week was "ghost"), and I think it was one of my first narrative pieces.Figured that many haven't gone back that far in the archives, and I always liked it. It now resides somewhere in Australia.
The question of Honorable (Un)Mention(ables) was brought up by a commenter who calls him/herself Skormos. I didn't do that, because I'd still have to leave some of the ones that I liked out. But after some thought, here they are.
Honorable Mention #1

Customers make me tear out my hair.
You can whine all you want,
You can yell, scream and stomp.
But you can't return used underwear.

Love the second honorable mention!
Your "ghost" sculpture is one of my favorites also. How did it get to Australia?
You always make me smile. love it.
I really miss the more sculptural pieces...hope you'll do more in the future.
Sara NoH's comment reminded me of a conversation I overheard and recounted on my blog last winter:
Can I help you?
Um, yeah. I want to get a refund.
Yes, ma'am. Let's see what you... Oh. I'm sorry ma'am, but we can't take returns on panties.
What?
No, ma'am.
What am I supposed to do with them, then? I sure can't wear them.
I'm sorry.
No! Just keep them. I don't know--give 'em to some poor homeless person or something, I don't care! I want these out of my life. Do you understand? I've got to get these panties out of my life!

aamnaa- thanks!
sprouthead- i'll try
jane- all kinds of interesting people in the world, for sure.
Oddly enough, when I was working at Victoria's Secret, we accepted underwear returns used or not. We didn't touch them, but we accepted them.
Wonderfull Ghost! I enjoyed very much with your crazy objects and sculptures. Please go on and good luck
yeah, even the lighting in this one is spot-on :)
great one, terry.
I am the Owner of "Ghost". Well, almost - I bought it for my daughter who was the one who first sent me to this blog. You'll be glad to know, Terry, that the ghost is well and - as far as we can tell - happy and that he delights all who see him.
You could make a killing down here in Australia, you really could. Peopl here LURVE your work ;)
Cheers
Sylvia
