One hundred Fifth Bent Objects Object Nomination Process

Hello friends!

Here's your chance to mention an object that you want me to use in an image to be posted here on Bent Objects. The last winner was Ice Cube, which gave me a lot of trouble, but I persevered! I've just now recovered from that one, so I think I'm ready for another.

The usual rules-

The object has to be something inexpensive (cheap), or something I probably already have around the house (No, I don't have an I-phone, so a big "no" to that one).

Mention one object that you'd be interested me incorporating into an image. Warning- I only count the first one that you mention.

Finally- Vote for an object that someone else has already mentioned, so that we get some sort of voting process going on.

Attention! Polls are now closed. No more comments allowed.
------------------------------------

I also have a question for you experienced Youtube, Vimeo, etc. people out there. -
What's a good little camera that would be good for that kind of stuff. I would like to start making some videos about Bent Object images as they are being made.
Thanks for any help you can give me!

I've seen you use raisins and wine but I've never seen you use grapes. I can just imagine the possibilities. Keep up the good work. I love your work.

Regina said...

I like the grapes.

This time of year at my house - it is the ubiquitous, and hard to give away - ZUCHINNI!!!

beebogates said...

mmhmm, does it always have to be food? how about a pocket watch, a swiss knife? or maybe earphones..

Trish said...

I envision wine with the grapes that Cat b mentioned...

Michaele said...

A crochet hook.

:)

Or handheld hold punch.

Or a piece of velcro.

IBerg said...

How about one of your stages (aka the backdrop, camera and light) after hours. That might be kind of fun to see what they do when you go to bed.

silveradept said...

How about a permanent marker?

The velcro idea is pretty good, too.

TouchTheSquid said...

I'm an animal person so how about a dog or cat toy.

I like the stage after-hours as well.

j.dávila said...

Some sort of pasta - ravioli, lasagna noodles, elbows?

I like the hole punch already suggested.

Katie Alender said...

Have you ever done a pin cushion?

I also like dog/cat toy.

Heat said...

keys

after hours

Medic61 said...

I'd like to see you use two halves of a stick of gum...like ripping a piece of gum in half, making them separate objects doing something.

And I vote for crochet hook!

Tamara said...

Incandescent or Compact Florescent light bulbs.

I also want to vote for an "after hours" scene.

Sarah said...

chapstick!

Matt said...

Since you're diving deeper into the technology age - how about an old school 5 1/4" floppy disk.

Sarah said...

or band-aids!

sb.lucky3 said...

Glasses?

oRayzio said...

A can of shaving cream and a disposable razor

pandanc209 said...

well im tied between the stage after hours and the gum idea that Medic61 mentioned

my suggestion/idea would be a floppy disk seeing as how no one uses them anymore( no offense to someone who does) and they're pretty cheap now.

Kitt said...

How about a funnel?

I like the floppy disk idea, too.

Nikoli said...

My suggestion: a sticker (any kind really, of course I'm partial to skate stickers)

My vote for a previous mentioned item: "behind the scenes" (cam, props, tools, etc.)

Patti said...

Really like the "behind the scenes" idea.

How about different soda cans? Especially Coke vs Pepsi?

Jeremy said...

A Pringles tube.

Matt said...

How about a nice fresh apricot?

I like Sarah's suggestion of band-aids.

lindseyrose said...

knitting needles and yarn

the crochet hook was a good idea, but I also like the sharpie and velcro suggestions!

101 S. Marion Avenue said...

A vote for velcro.

Suggesting records - like, 45 RPM or 33 RPM - remember those?

Adriane said...

pressed wild flowers?

I also like the after hours idea.

Justin said...

What about a watermelon? I know, it's kind of big, but it would force you to think, for sure.

I like the disposable razor thing.

Angie Weid said...

#1 popcorn.

There's the buttery, carmel or the ever popular orange cheese coated.

I didn't see a previous mentioned that jumps out at me....

#2 Obama vs. McCain political signs.

Rachel said...

I was actually going to suggest a handheld single hole punch, but that one was suggested already! So that's my vote!

~Freedom Fest~ said...

a computer mouse
an award medal (like for valor and that junk)
a tennis shoe
a tube of ointment (didn't you already do that?)
cherries

and I like the idea of popcorn kernels, the combo of popped and unpopped is intriguing.

tippinthescales said...

I like the velcro idea.

What about a guest soap taking a bath? I wonder if you get a 'ooloured' [rust] image.

Brains said...

BEER BOTTLES!

Stephanie S said...

My suggestion: a tea bag!

I also like the chapstick idea :-)

suttonhoo said...

a stapler.

everyone loves a stapler.

+ they're a little malicious.

Me said...

vote for the bandaids.

another option: batteries

lilalia said...

I like the pin cushion.

About a quick and dirty youtube video camera... you could try the flip video camera. If you want something more upscale, best to write one of the people who has produced a youtube video you like and ask them directly. That is what the web 2.0 community is all about.

My suggestion is a homemade popsicle.

tracey.ca said...

seashells

tracey.ca said...

oh yeah ... popsicle! that is good.

AnneMarie said...

How about a scene involving (melted) chocolate and strawberries?

I second the popcorn/popcorn kernal suggestion.

Carol said...

Oh, I love the stage idea!

Elena said...

OOOH I like the after hours scene or the floppy disk and I submit a clothes pin.

girlwiththecats said...

cat/dog treats

Roberta said...

I love the shape and color and general bumpiness of avocados, so that's my suggestion.

I really like the idea of Chapstick, though, since I have about fifteen in pockets, drawers, purses, the car, under the couch . . .

Clay said...

I'd like to see a peppermint. Love your art.

neuroticmeeps said...

Jewelry, that would be a toughie

shilantra said...

I vote for the pincushion idea.

What about a cassette tape? Does anyone still have those lying around anymore?

actingabby said...

Loving "Behind the scenes" although it could be anything, not just your studio. I also would love to see a coke vs. pepsi pic.

My suggestion: Spy vs. Spy! Remember those old Mad comics? I loved em!

Abster

Terry said...

Hey guys! Thought I'd mention that I've done chapstick-here, and a pincushion too, but I'm too lazy to look that one up.

Tatman said...

Stephanie s needs to refer to your "Really Bent Objects" blog to see the tea bag. Hilarious!

My personal suggestion would be a spark plug.

My vote for an already suggested item would be the hole punch.

Keep up the great work, Terry. Your idea for making videos during the creation process sounds awesome. I picture some kind of sped up film with a keystone cops type of music. Can't wait to see it if ti happens.

Rubberband ball.

And I vote for the watermelon. "Big and fat" are too easy. Gotta make it sexy somehow.

Tell us what you get for the video. I've been thinking the same myself and will be interested.

On with the blather said...

I vote for Iberg's suggestion of 'after hours'.... wish I would have thought of that!!

My suggestion... coffee beans! Only because I don't think you've used them yet and I've suggested them the last couple times.

On with the blather!

Oh, Des Moines has a art fair that's ranked #10 in the nation last I heard.

Katrice Battle said...

rubber band ball is a pretty good idea i think

Doug Walsh said...

An old Nintendo or Atari videogame cartridge.

I also like the idea of the single-hole punch.

r_doudrick said...

How about a stack of post-its?

I vote for the Swiss army knife. I'd love to see what kind of monster you could make out of that!

MelissaJ2084 said...

pair of dice?

David Resseguie said...

How about a Rubber Duck?

I vote for the velcro so far.

OriginalKemoSabe said...

Hi,
I found out about you via rhettandlink. I just want to say that you are very creative.

My nomination is (srry if you already did this...i'm new): bubbles, like the stick that makes bubbles. I know it's not food, but...

As far as second question:
any camera will work, for a while I used kodak easyshare cx7430, just a normal little digital camera. I recently got a sanyo xacti.

Tim said...

Pasta sounds like a good idea...

my suggestion: A tv remote control.

Christine Thresh said...

Around the holiday season I'd like to see a candy cane.

I got a Flip Video Ultra and it is easy to use and pretty darn nice.

Melissa said...

Dog tags. (like the military spec ones)

I do like the after hours studio idea too.

Laedelas Greenleaf said...

Use Q-tips in your next photo shoot! Also, the "after hours" idea is great!

SOe said...

I like the floppy-disk-idea. CD or DVD.

Singular Girl said...

What about a garlic press? I like how you have used kitchen items in the past.

And my vote goes to the "after-hours" idea

kimonkey7 said...

How about a challenge to take, say, a maximum of $5 in quarters to wherever in your 'hood has a selection of prize-y gumball machines? Pick what you like, but use everything you buy.

triannamaxwell said...

Anything knitting related so needles, yarn, stitch markers, etc. I found this blog yesterday and it's just GREAT!

dEliRiuM said...

magnets?

vote for funnel

larkylark2 said...

How about a tape measure? Any kind...

a floppy disk sounds fun.

gerta said...

Velcro or keys both sound full of possibility...

The Management said...

Have you ever done bottles of nail polish? They look kind of snooty to me.

I vote for the knitting needles--they have to spend a lot of time in close contact and I bet they get on each other's nerves.

Bad Bob said...

How about a marble?

The Gentle Cricket said...

My vote is for the 5 1/4" floppy disk.

Katie Alender said...

D'oh! I found the pin cushion here. A great one from the archives!

Andrea said...

Cell phone (non-iphone--just a normal one)

I vote for the already said Post-it Notes.

Although Popcorn is a close one.

Justin said...

The old NES or Atari tape idea is my new favorite, for sure!

Marlijn said...

Try cotton balls!! You can fluff them in all kinds of ways.

I like the pasta idea too.

Ginger said...

Dried Apricots

A paperclip of this kind: http://www.istockphoto.com/file_closeup/object/5644797_bulldog_paper_clip.php?id=5644797&refnum=828809

I like the suggestions of a crochet hook, or a stack of post it notes. Some kind of autumnal thing could happen there...

Henry B. said...

Bacon. Everybody loves bacon. And that would be a challenge, eh? Plus you'd get to eat your mistakes, so everybody wins!

Standard C9 or C7 Christmas light bulbs.

Can't wait to see it!

Max said...

Polyhedral dice

Lanie Painie said...

my idea is "water balloons" inspired by the recent inundation of bladder control medication commercials using them

I vote for the lightbulb idea (pun intended)

Karen said...

I'd like to see you struggle with MATCHES ( a book of, or a single match; preferably lit).

Second choice, I vote for the lovely clothespin.

spindiloo-whoo said...

My suggestion is a baby pacifier.

And I really dig the BACON idea.

Joseph said...

Plastic Bread Tabs....any shape or color

I like the marble idea, too.

spleenal said...

Pez dispenser?

BB Whimsies said...

A roll of BreathSavers... getting ready for the ladies. ;)

I second the idea of the trashy toys in the gumball machines. Or even the little domed containers that contain the toys.

Love your work Terry!

Nate said...

a charcoal briquette!

Fudge said...

in addition to voting for popcorn, i'd like to suggest a war between plain/buttered popcorn vs the caramel/candied varieties

Cameron m said...

My idea is a bouncy ball,

I love the "after hours" idea too!!

Brat said...

A comb.
.

Leah said...

Oooh, charcoal Briquette. Brilliant! I say glue.

craftydabbler said...

How about computer keyboard keys?

I also like the back stage/after hours idea and the spark plug.

Keke said...

I love it when you use game pieces, and I would love to see you incorporate the game of "Trouble." What did the dice do to get themselves locked up in that plastic bubble any way? Isn't popping them around cruel and unusual punishment?

I like the gumball machine toys idea!

Fab5 said...

I am envisioning a salt shaker and a battery out shopping and it being entitled, "Assault and battery charges."
Oh man, you really got my mind working after I looked at your blog. You are awesome, to which I'm sure you already know.

Grace said...

How about a receipt?

I also like the after hours suggestion.

J H The English Gal said...

A kipper! Of course. Want me to have some assorted seafood shipped over to you? I can and will, if you so wish ... hell, I'm 41 and you KNOW what happens at 40 ... we all go daft!

I assume you've done a paper clip and will therefore not mention such an obvious item. Oops, I just did. Whoops a daisy.

Previously mentioned ... hmmm ... I like the Post-It notes idea. And the after hours. Anything really ... just keep 'em coming!!

Christopher Robin said...

Maybe a disposable lighter .. something fire-breathing or fire-worshipping??

Crochet hook and velcro could be cool too ... I really like your work and have enjoyed your presentation of it.
