I wanted to tell anyone who's interested what I've been up to, and as I really don't enjoy just posting words, I grabbed this little red bulb and tried to turn it into a spider (eight legs added to most any object ends up looking like a spider).
The deadline for me to turn in all my images to my publisher is fast approaching, so I've been trying hard (probably too hard) to get as many created as possible. Problem is, you can't rush creativity and have great things happen. My plan is to just make as many as I can, and then hopefully I'll have some that are very good, and I think that's what's happening so far. Last week, I think I made my best one in quite some time. After something like that happens, it makes me want to try and equal it with a few more, so I get caffeinated like a madman and want to put it in high gear. But like I said before, that usually doesn't work very well. Thank God I love what I do, because if I didn't, I'd have a headache from thinking about this all the time!
I've probably been posting about half as much as I used to, and I guess it might stay like that for a while. I'm kind of hording some shots that I would usually post, just so my publisher can pick and choose what they want exclusively for my book (about half of the books images will be totally new). I'll do what I can to keep the images posted here as frequently as possible.
Best,
Terry

Your headache is probably from all that caffiene! ;o) I'm really looking forward to the book.
Excellent image, as always, and I can't wait for the book! I can also completely relate to the creativity thing and not being able to rush it or force it... my drug of choice is poetry, and I know the high I feel when I do something I believe is really good is similar to what you feel... then comes the urge to do more, do better, and it is always agony to try and force it... but your work is genius, and I know the books is going to be outstanding! Take care!
Your success is exciting. With success comes a lot of hard work, as you well know. I am glad for what you are able to share.
Wonderful creature! Ingenious! Can't wait to find out more about the book :)
I like the partial shadow on the translucent body.
I recommend plenty of rest to keep your creativity at it's maximum. For inspiration I listen to music, browse through art and to go into nature once a day at least.
Good luck on the book!
Terry-Dude,
Do what you need to your work is still amazing!!!
Anxiously awaiting your "new arrival", here in Canada.
I'm very excited about your book. I rarely ever buy books, and when I do, it's always a novel, never a coffee table book, but I am definitely going to purchase your Bent Objects book as soon as it comes out!
I love the spider! The shadow of the see-through body gives it an eerie, creepy-crawly quality (but in a GOOD way!).
No prob about keeping stuff to yourself! Our interest is piqued already!

That is totally museum worthy! I love it!

Forgive me if this posts twice, but it did some weird stuuf to me the first time I tried...
What I was going to say:
That bubl spider is a strange conglomeration of Christmas and Halloween, sort of like that Tim Burton flick.
I dig it.
this one reminds me of those bugs that skate along the surface of water (Gerridae)
I think probably because the shadow looks like a reflection.
My publisher wanted new (non blog) stuff too. I think it's right because a lot of people won't pay for something they can get somewhere else for free.
This one is so delicate and lovely. The shadow is almost like a painting that the spider just needed to touch. I know this one wouldn't scare me. Thanks Terry.
That is cute (even though it is a spider)!!
It's OK that you don't post as much. I still keep on eye on this blog, while I patiently await the book!
Hey, I've slowed down my postings too. Summertime calls for outdoor fun, not blogging. Keep up the work. I'll keep checking for your updates.
You do what you need to do... I'm just so thrilled for you and your family! It's fun to be part of the group that 'knew you when' (sort of). :-)
Imagination/Fantasy and time scheadules do not go well together! Good luck!
do you need a Haiku to get those creative juices flowing?

Thanks for your thoughts people. And your haiku s and advice.
sure, the object itself is very simple, but it works, and the photo is gorgeous. love that shadow!--it says spider even more loudly than the sculpture does. the legs with their shadows create an elegant line drawing with a wonderful abstract design. i really really like this one. oh, and you're understated use of the color red is pretty ok, too. ;P
Just wanted to say hi and that I really enjoy reading your blog. I am a 911 dispatcher in South Dakota and I read your blog on a regular basis!
simple, and yet my favorite!
