I left a 2 buck tip for the house-keeping person at our Hotel in the hands of a plastic fork. I can only imagine the reaction upon sighting my generosity - "What the *&$@ is this?"

On the way back we spent the afternoon at the Louisville Zoo (where we were excited to see a colony of naked mole rats, because we're fans of Kim Possible). It was there that I left a clothes pin bird that I spent way too much time making in the car, and then in a hotel room.
Oh, the terrible feeling of rejection. I subtly set the bird down near one of the exhibits with a sticky note in it's mouth clearly reading "Take Me Home. Courtesy Bent Objects". So we're heading back out of the exhibit just in time to see a young mother noticing it, and bending down to read the note. My wife is whispering to me as we walk by, "Oh look! Oh look!", because we've never seen anyone actually find one of my wire things. I take a peek back after we walk 10 yards or so, to see she and her child walking away with the bird still there. Quite humbling. Ha!!
(it is kinda scary ugly looking)--------------------------------------------
On a separate note- cool dioramas.

I don't think it's scary at all. *I* would have taken this home for sure.
She knew the child would injure itself or wreck the bird and carefully left it for someone more appropriate. She really loved it!
I think she might have had the sensibility to leave it as public art to be admired and appreciated. I hope I can give her as much credit, at least. :)
I agree with Kat, I believe she was trying to respect public art.
Needs a note:

Enough to let people know who you are and that you want them to take it, and an extra dash of humor.
Agh! the extra spaces on my note were stripped out!
OH heck! I love that bird. I hang out in the Jacksonville, FL Costco a lot, and the Joannes near there... the library too. If you are ever this way and leave something I'll make it my mission to find and love it. :)
I think though, that she thought, "Oh this is adorable, but I bet the next person who comes along will love it even more than me and then TWO lives will be touched by this art" so she left it.
I was at Mammoth caves about 5 years before you and it was awesome... And I love that how you left the tip for housekeeping. I'm always on the look out just in case you ever hit the Melbourne (FL) area! Love your stuff. It's the best.
Yeah...if you ever leave anything in my area I would totally take it!
Aw man! I holed up in the house most of the day... If only I had taken the fam to the zoo... though I'm not sure the 9 month old would have really gotten anything out of it... Cool stuff, as usual!
That was an awesome way to leave a tip to housekeeping. I bet they didn't know what to think!!! :)
As a former member of housekeeping, that would've made my month! Nay, my career!
The fork makes me laugh.
And Kim Possible is one of the last vestiges of good cartooning on television. It's original-ish and super freaking cool. I kind of want to be her.
what the heck is wrong with me to
leave 10% to house keeping.
isn't that the norm?
I LOVE the ugly bird. Reminds me of a dodo bird. I wanna stumble upon one of yer creations! Where is the love? le sigh

flower shop girl, I'm sure your housekeepers adore you, but the norm as far as I know it is $2/person/day.
A spork would have been better. Awesome nonetheless
Thanks to everyone for the time you took to comment.
Katie- thanks for that info. I really didn't know what it was supposed to be.
bnug- you're right, but we hadn't been there (KFC) yet.
Again, thanks all!
For the record, Harland Sanders was actually born in Indiana.
aww, poor rejected birdie! he is kinda scary looking. i would have taken him though! i'm sure someone did.
and housekeeping got a treat. i can only wonder what he (she) made of it.
So absolutely cute, I would love to have it at home!
