Little Lighter Lizard

Not quite a dragon, but close enough I guess. I bought this lighter months ago, and it's been waiting for me to use it in an image.

Here's how it looked before I photographed it breathing fire.

Just after I took the shot with the flame, the flame burnt his little face and made this unfortunate deformity. I made it so I can change lighters, luckily. Not that I'll be letting him burn again. Lighters aren't made to burn sideways like this! Ha!

You could always use one of those long barbecue lighters, which are made to burn in just about any direction. ;)

It is the idea, though. I like it. Even though it reminds me more of an iguana...

If you pull off the metal sleeve you can manipulate the flame adjustment to make a huge flame. Just be careful though those cheap lighters can explode if they get too hot!

I did some lighter art years ago with bic lighters. Before I proceed, DO NOT TRY THIS INDOORS!

Only use empty lighters, (they are never completely empty) and light the gas depressor on fire, it will in turn get hot enough to start melting the lighter itself. When the plastic is good and gooey blow the flame out and stick it to another lighter and let cool, as the melted parts cool they will bond with another lighter.

When the flame get hot enough to burn though the lighter the rest of the fluid burns, sometimes blowing the top off the lighter, sometimes it will just make a 3 or 4 inch flame that burns out the side of the lighter, and sometimes it will cause a small explosion and blow the lighter onto the couch and set it on fire. Hence the don't try this indoors warning.

I see a public service anouncement in your future . . .with a matching cigarette critter and some clever caption about why dinosaurs are extinct.

Lanie Painie's comment about doing a public service announcement - that's funny. As far as burning your dino iguana-y, if you position it upright as if it's climbing a branch or something you wouldn't burn your little friend like it's fossil fuel.

On with the blather

How on earth did you get the flame without emptying the lighter or horribly burning anything? Stick the button down and light the gas just before taking the picture? My pyro senses are tingling...

Thanks all!

Martin, in the bottom shot, you can see the heavier gauge wire that I clipped onto the thumb switch thingy.
