At a Crossroads

Long story short- my publisher, Running Press, asked me to create an image for a poster for them to hand out at this year's book expo in NYC. The theme they requested was "books & E-books". I made two images, and this was the one they didn't choose, and of course it was my favorite. Ha! That's okay though, because now I can share it with you.

The two characters..well, my publisher didn't want one winning over the other, or fighting, etc. Supposedly, E-books have actually brought on more sales, which in turn have brought a bit of an uptick in real books. (That's what I've been told anyway. I'm sure I'll hear otherwise in the comment section). If you are a regular visitor here, you'll know that is my usual modus operandi- fighting, some sort of embarrassment, tragedy, and so on, so this took a while to come up with. In the end though, I was happy with it. It has a jet-pack for Pete's sake, how could I not be happy?

Love it! Too bad we can't see the other one...yes. :)

Why do I suspect the other one involved a bedroom scene? Well done once again Sir. Jet pack FTW!

This is great! Love it!
E-books are just silly! I love my computer, would there's nothing like a real book when a story is desired.

I can feel myself slowly caving to the e-book pressure.

But for the time being, I love holding a real book, turning the real pages, and putting it up on the bookshelf once it's been read.

One has a jet pack and the other has a basket of flowers! They're BOTH happy.

In Germany, you have to pay the same price for the real and the electronic book. Real books are much better. It´s the smell and you can read it everywhere, anytime. Try to press some flowers in an e-book! ;-) Only reason, why I bought some e-books, I am moving right now and want to save some boxes. Hope we can see the other picture in the future.

I love this! Mr. Book looks completely content to get around on his bike, and seems to enjoy a pleasant relationship with his eccentric neighbor without any jet-pack jealousy. I think it's swell.

Also, cotton balls make great jet-pack exhaust. So creative.

So timely... I've been having the book vs. e-book discussion on so many other blogs...

Love the latest pics, BTW... especially the litter box one. I almost coughed up a soda looking at that one.

Love it! Let's face it, ebooks are fine but there's nothing like the real thing!

awesome image. I don't see one winning over the other, just different modes of travel. although I do have to agree: wheeeee a jet-pack!

I love ebooks, but I wouldn't want your book that way--I need to study the diagrams and photos

I will be at the book expo this month and I'm excited to see your winning option. I like this one though! Jet packs are fun!

Yes, a jet pack. What more could anyone want?

Love it.

I decided to get an e-book (when I finally become employeed again *sigh) for the books that I read constantly. I find that a lot of the bindings in books now are "cheap". Pages falling out of my books. And I take care of the books too!

I decided the money I was spending on full price hardbound books I was going to start collecting/buying antique books to match my 110 year old leather bound 2 volume set Count of Monte Cristo!

Love it! (And I won't even get into the "real" books vs eReaders debate) See? Aren't I nice. :)

I love this design!

As a both way users, I do my readings on both soft copies and hard copies. And this design did a great job to have a hint of using both media (in my own using experience) :D

E books are a ripoff, not only do they cost more than regular books they're no were better. You just don't get that good fresh book smell or feel, ya know? Nor have the ability to have it put on yourself and can grab and read it whenever. I mean ebooks are good for some thing's. I have a few books in my iBooks on my iPhone to read at work if I'm bored or something but nothing too serious. Love this pic though

I don't one winning or a fight. I just think the e-reader is going faster but that's not always better.

Great image!

There´s a lot of interpretation of that.

May I publish that picture in my blog kindle.blog.br. Onde a week we published a picture that shows a Kindle or other e-readers.

Best,

I love the idea. E-books are practical but real old-fashioned ones will always remain closer to my heart.

Thanks all.

Emanuel, sure. No problem.

Terry, thanks for your credit. We will publish next sunday 06/5.

Congratulations. Your imagination is contagious. Some day I took myself looking to a banana and thought that it lost a leg.:)

Fighting? Winning over the other? The book is waving "hello" to the ebook.

The book is taking a nice leisurely ride in the park, he's going to rent a canoe, and then have a picnic with his girlfriend who works at the library reference desk (she's a thesaurus). How is that "losing"?

Of course, I'd rather be the ebook and have the jetpack, but then I'm a nerd and don't have a girlfriend.
