I'm just a person living in a small state in the middle of America who isn't an expert on anything but what I do here at Bent Objects, but I think this video may sum up our culture at the moment. I feel that we have stopped dreaming big, and have switched over to a sort of "management mode." Where we get excited about the latest way to watch movies and play video games, exploring virtual worlds via software because we have given up on exploring real ones.
Maybe is a good moment to send you a big hug from Spain, somewhere in Europe... I really like your blog, your pictures are surprising and meaningful. Thanks for the video
very glad you posted this. So many technological things/gadgets can be traced back to NASA and the space program. Just GPS alone more than paid for our NASA expenses. So many people don't see it. But there are still dreamers out there. Richard Branson and Virgin Galactic come to mind. But this clip brings up a difference between private space explorers vs. a country inspiring its citizens.
Thank you so much for sharing that video, Mr. Border. Inspiring, depressing and hopeful, all at the same time.
From each tax dollar collected in 2010, 27 cents went to the military, 14 cents to interest on debt (!), five cents to the government, three cents for education and only one-tenth of one cent toward science. I don't know how you feel about fellow-blogger awards? But I love what you do, and I'm nominating you. Take it or leave it, but know you're very much appreciated.

I think NASA is as much unfocused as underfunded. They need one big, sexy program to ignite public interest, like putting men on Mars. But I totally agree with the sentiment. I don't care about a third iteration of the ipad. I want to see man expanding his universe.
When I see the lack of interest in space, it astounds me and makes me want to collectively shake the country. I am glad though that the private sector is taking a hand and makes me think Mr. Heinlein would be happy that maybe some day, some one really will sell the Moon.
As for virtual worlds don't discount to easily the font of creativity that is out there. Not every one has the wherewithal - especially now a days, to go RL exploring. VW's give us a place to explore our art and the visions of others.
"Where there is no vision, the people perish" - Proverbs 29:18.
I date the end of the First American Technological Vision to be in the early 70s, the loss of faith in technology-driven progress, brought on by the fear of automation, the budding environmental movement, and the resistance to the Vietnam War's technological aspects. A lot of that decline of faith was and is justified.
I grew up during the Apollo age of NASA, and it truly was a different era. National unity and pride abounded, and dreams were born from dreams we watched come true . Thank you for posting this video!
So glad I happened onto your blog. This video makes me very sad, but hopefully we are going through a bad patch only to be inspired again to come out the other side with new inspiration.

For some reason I don't quite understand, this video brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for posting it, Terry!

Such an amazing video. I wasn't alive for most of that area, but I feel sad to see the boredom and lack of desire in those around me.
Thank you for posting, and thank you always for your awesome blog!!!
